Aired LIVE from the S.A.G.A.N. THEATER!
Join us for a weekly broadcast of the Astrobiology Coffee Hour Seminars aired live on S.A.G.A.N. from Arizona State University.
Speaker: Estelle Couradeau
Title: Bony bacteria: An early-branching cyanobacterium forms intracellular carbonates
Abstract: In this presentation I will give some background on cyanobacteria in the fossil records and mechanisms of extracellular calcification as introduction. Then I will report the discovery of a previously unknown cyanobacterium able to form intracellular carbonate inclusions as well as the description of this mineral phase. Eventually I will discuss the formation of these intracellular inclusions, their putative role and how this discovery gives new insight in the interpretation of the fossil record of calcified cyanobacteria.
Seminars are hosted by the ASU ''Follow the Elements'' Astrobiology team on Wednesdays at 8AM Pacific time.
