Event Description

This week, we'll talk about the biosignature detection payload for the Mars 2020 rover, which will be the first mission since Viking to look for signs of life. The Science Definition Team report is accessible here: http://marsmobile.jpl.nasa.gov/mars2020/files/m2020/SDT-Report%20Finalv6.pdf.
Because we are primarily interested in biosignatures, we will focus on pp. 30-50 ("Objective B: Assess the Biosignature Potential Preservation Within the Selected Geological Environment and Search for Potential Biosignatures").
However, feel free to skim through other sections, such as the proposed payload on pp. 77-80.
To get a discussion started, please come with short answers to these 3 points about the papers:
(a) One thing you found cool.
(b) One thing you found dubious.
(c) One thing you did not quite understand.
To join via Fuze:
Toll / Intl #:  +1 (201) 479-4595
Meeting Number:  23197135

Thanks,
Marc
